TABOO Subjects Part Four - What TG's Don't Talk About!

Caution:

This series of articles might Piss You Off!  These might be subjects you don’t want to talk about, you want to ignore, or you might hope no one suspects they exist.

But these subjects do exist, and we get letters on them and in-person questions when we are at nightclubs, gatherings, meetings or conventions.

This is an Interactive article – meaning we want you to leave comments below! But if you think you’ll get flack from doing so, or your friends might not like your answers if they see them, or your wife/S.O. might pop you in the head if she sees your answer, then don’t leave a comment!

The Warning is now over!

Hi, in case you don’t know me I’m Gina Lance, Editor of TG LIFE.  I also have a book out called GET DRESSED! which I’m sure you’ve seen ads for on TG LIFE.  I conceived this series of articles, TABOO Subjects, because there are certain thoughts and feelings that transgendered people, crossdressers to be specific, just don’t talk about. Sure they think about them, because they tell me via email or in person.  But usually these people are even afraid to express their opinions vocally, because we as a TG group are somehow supposed to fit into a mold.

So here goes with TABOO Subject Number Four…

If Organized Religion Is Used Against Us, Why Not Just Jump Ship?

My answer is… It’s up to you!

For years we’ve heard Christian religious zealots quote this Biblical line from the Old Testament…

Deuteronomy 22:5

“A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God."

Personally, I’d much rather listen to the following lines by the late comedian, George Carlin:

“The only good thing ever to come out of religion was the music. Religion convinced the world that there's an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there's 10 things he doesn't want you to do or else you'll go to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity. But he loves you! ...And he needs money! He's all powerful, but he can't handle money!”

Every religion seems to base itself on controlling you, and your behavior, and making you fearful of who you are and how you might run your life. Anyone belonging in the GLBT spectrum is an abomination to most religious fanatics.  And believe me, I include a lot of churchgoers in that when I say fanatics.  I’ve seen born again Christians at Crawdad festivals in the southern U.S., even though the Old Testament states not to eat shellfish. The bible also states that all people should wear clothing that displays four tassels according to Deuteronomy 22:12. I guess that conveniently doesn’t apply to today’s modern churchgoers. In other words, over time, many biblical statements have been ignored, unless they are something to put YOU down, simply because you do not fit the mold some people believe in.

Call me sacrilegious, call me ignorant, say I’m going to hell, (which I don’t believe in, so too bad) but I’m happy.  I’m honest, sincere and truthful.  I am also a crossdresser.

My point is, how you dress and what you are does not make you a bad person. Discriminating against others different from you for no reason, or to make a point based on old scriptures, while ignoring other points in those scriptures everyday, to me is blasphemy.  Blasphemy against logic; that cannot only make you ignorant, but a bad person and totally illogical.

In a society where creationists attempt to ignore evolution, and scientific proof of the age of ancient reptiles, but still have time to despise you, they ignore the true rights of the individual, and whether those individuals are transgendered.  Instead they attempt to force their opinions on you. They even attempt now to push the thought that Jesus might have rode dinosaurs. Talk about absurdity in finding a means to an end to prove your own beliefs.

Personally, I’d rather be trying on a new dress, loving myself, and ignoring their opinions. I know I am a good person, and I’m sure most of you are also.  Respect yourself, even though some others don’t respect you.  It is there loss.

So how do you feel about modern religion and how most of it’s disciples demonize you?  Do you go to church and turn the other cheek? Or do you participate in a church that is open, free thinking, and accepting of GLBT members? Do you believe these biblical writings or do you feel they were just meant to control the populace at the time? You’ve read what I think and heard me preach for a bit so now it’s your time to talk!  This is an Interactive Feature so please add your comments below!
