Transgender film production company Speed of Joy Productions emailed me recently to announce that they have their theater screening and web distribution and release dates; the scripted series will premiere all six episodes for free on Tuesday, January 19th, 2016!.
Focused on the dating lives of transgender and grender queer individuals, "Her Story" followers two transgender women in Los Angeles (depicted by a true life transgender actress for each; Jen Richards as Violet [alsoco-writer and co-producer], and Angelica Ross as paige) who have given up on love, and then, through unexpected encounters find reason for hope.
With a crew of award-winners (producers, directors writers) Her Story is a counter point to the sensationalist media representation of trans-women as serial killers, mentally disturbed, or a comedy punch-line. It aims to display real people, who laugh, cry, love, and dream.
Producer Katherine Fisher adds, “Her Story depicts the unique, complicated, and very human women we see in queer communities, and explores how these women navigate the intersections of label identity and love. With this project we have the opportunity to positively shift cultural perceptions of women in the trans and queer communities. We invite you to join us in helping to make visible the lives of women who too often are made invisible.”

On January 19th, the groundbreaking new series Her Story will release its six-episode first season on their website for free.
The scripted new-media series follows two captivating trans women in Los Angeles who had given up on love, when suddenly, chance encounters give them hope. Violet is drawn to Allie, a reporter who approaches her for an interview while career-driven Paige meets James, the first man she’s considered opening up to in years. Will they risk letting what they are stand in the way of being loved for who they are?
Trans women in the media have long been punchlines, killers, indications of urban grit, pathetic tragedies, and dangerous sirens. Rarely have they been complex characters who laugh, struggle, and grow, who share strength in sisterhood, who seek and find love. Her Story depicts the unique, complicated, and very human women we see in queer communities, and explores how these women navigate the intersections of label identity and love.
Co-written by Jen Richards (I Am Cait) and Laura Zak (#Hashtag), directed by Sydney Freeland (Drunktown’s Finest), with Cinematography by Bérénice Eveno, Executive Produced by Eve Ensler and Produced by Katherine Fisher/Speed of Joy Productions, Her Story features predominantly LGBTQ women, on and off-screen.
