MODEL Andrej Pejic, is currently one of the world's most famous male models - and he has no regrets that most people think he's a woman.
"I guess professionally I've left my gender open to artistic interpretation," he said, following appearances on both the menswear and womenswear catwalks, including a turn as Jean Paul Gaultier's couture bride. "It's not like, 'Okay, today I want to look like a man, or today I want to look like a woman'. I want to look like me. It just so happens that some of the things I like are feminine."
"I know people want me to sort of defend myself, to sit here and be like, 'I'm a boy, but I wear makeup sometimes.' But, you know, to me, it doesn't really matter. I don't really have that sort of strong gender identity - I identify as what I am. The fact that people are using it for creative or marketing purposes, it's just kind of like having a skill and using it to earn money."
Pejic's delicate looks have won him campaigns and catwalk appearances for designers from Marc Jacobs to Givenchy - and the model acknowledges that the controversy he provokes is part of the appeal, allowing him to command female, rather than lower male, day rates.Watch Andrej walk the runway for the spring 2011Gaultier Couture Show below, and two interviews in the video gallery
